In 2020, Baker Tilly Corporate Finance has been involved in 135 transactions from our offices in the Netherlands and Belgium, with a total transaction value of € 1.9 billion. Our advisers have been involved in 30 M&A transactions, 84 valuations and 21 due diligence investigations.
The year 2020 is strongly linked to the global pandemic. When the corona crisis started in early 2020, many projects were put on hold. There was much uncertainty in the market about the impact of the developments. The market recovered around the summer period, as a result of which the third and fourth quarters proved to be 'old-fashioned busy'. Baker Tilly Corporate Finance can therefore look back on an eventful, but nevertheless successful, 2020.
The main sectors in which we acted as advisers during the year were business services, industry and healthcare. In many other sectors, our advisers possess a wealth of market knowledge as well. In the past year, we have had the opportunity to carry out a variety of assignments, in which we acted as sparring partner for a diverse portfolio of clients.
About 40% of the transactions were cross-border. The M&A sector is clearly no longer limited to national borders and is increasingly linked to the global market. In this respect, good communication and collaboration between the offices of Baker Tilly is essential. A good example is the fact that Baker Tilly's Corporate Finance teams in the Netherlands and Belgium have already worked closely together on various cross-border transactions, making optimal use of the joint network and knowledge of the local market. The involvement in and joint approach to international transactions reflects Baker Tilly's strong global network.
2021 has started flourishing at Baker Tilly Corporate Finance and we enter the new year with full confidence. The market is in full swing and we see a lot of transactions coming our way. In 2021, we will be pleased to guide you and your business to a well-considered next step. The advisors at Baker Tilly Corporate Finance offer solutions for various issues. From M&A advice to valuation and from (re)financing to due diligence.
